If you’ve ever added a widget to your Android home screen, you’ve probably seen the frustrating experience of scrolling through hundreds of unrelated options to find the one you want. There’s a faster way.

Although a search box is present, finding the right widget can still be difficult. Should you search for people, contacts, or address book? Weather, or the actual name of your weather app? Annoying right?

The trick is to start from the icon for the app that has the widget you want. If you want a direct shortcut to a contact in your address book, for example, start by holding briefly on the Contacts app icon, then select the Widgets icon (it looks like a stack of boxes).

This will take you to a filtered view of widgets provided by that app specifically, making it easy to get the one you want.
