I’ve waited for this since Android Auto launched a decade ago and it’s finally here: weather radar in my car’s dashboard.
Update February 29, 2024: after I wrote this post, the developers behind my favorite weather app, MyRadar, wrote back to me to let me know that their implementation is in closed beta right now and they aim to have it released within the month. Those of us with this app installed on our phones should see it show up on our dashboard app lists automatically. 😁

This is another one of those posts where I share an app that sparked joy recently. There’s not much to this post: this app doesn’t replace the Weather apps I already use everywhere else (at least not yet), but it is nice to have weather right on my car dashboard.
It features multiple levels of zoom (but not close enough to use for driving/navigation), has layers for radar, precipitation, temperature map, and wind speed. Your current location is indicated along with the present temperature at that location.
There’s no split screen and as mentioned it doesn’t zoom close enough to look at neighborhood streets, but you can zoom to a city-level, which feels an appropriate distance for weather usage (no weather app is going to be particularly enlightening if you zoom close enough to see your rooftop). The app on the phone isn’t really all that outstanding so I don’t plan to use it outside the car right now, so that’s about it for this one.
